Dedicated Addiction Treatment for Women

Gender-specific residential addiction treatment for women has proven to improve outcomes. Substance use and mental health disorders can affect women differently than men. Women can also experience higher rates of trauma, physical violence, and sexual assault resulting from living with active addiction. Historically, it has been harder for women to engage in treatment because they are more often responsible for caring for family members and loved ones.

Our women’s recovery program provides a safe, gender-specific space, female team members, women’s healthcare, and relevant curriculum designed for women. An all-female treatment setting can make it easier for women to feel comfortable and to share openly during treatment.

What are the benefits of a women’s treatment program?

Feeling safe

Women, especially those with a history of male-perpetrated violence or conflict, experience a greater sense of safety in an all-female treatment setting.

Treatment relevance

An all-female treatment milieu allows programming to focus on the issues most relevant to their experience. Whether discussing traditional culturally ingrained gender tropes, caregiver roles and expectations, or women’s health issues, an all-female environment helps to focus treatment on relevant issues.

Women’s Healthcare

Our women’s recovery program includes women’s healthcare to make treatment as effective as possible.

Specialized Curriculum & Therapies

Numerous curricula have been developed specifically to help women seeking recovery. Using a women’s treatment curriculum makes treatment more effective and covers important topics that can support recovery.

Integrated addiction medicine (residential treatment)

Women’s healthcare services

We provide basic women’s healthcare to assess medical conditions, treat minor ailments, and supervise and advise on medication use.

Psychiatric prescribing and medication monitoring

Psychiatric medications can play powerful roles in reducing substance cravings and managing mental health disorder symptoms like anxiety and depression. Our psychiatric prescribers are experienced in supporting individual recovery goals and collaborating with colleagues to ensure an optimized medical plan.

Individual psychotherapy

Our women’s treatment program includes personalized, individual psychotherapy sessions. Psychotherapy is a cornerstone of evidence-based practice. Our clinicians are highly trained and typically use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and gestalt therapy.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma is a prevalent issue for women impacted by behavioral health disorders. Resolving trauma is essential to lasting recovery and overall health and well-being. We use evidence-based trauma therapies, including EMDR, somatic experiencing, and others, to resolve underlying trauma so that clients can successfully engage in other aspects of treatment.

Psychoeducation

We offer psychoeducation to help clients understand the disease of addiction and substance use disorders. Being educated about these disorders improves one’s ability to successfully manage symptoms and advocate for their own health.

Group therapy

All-female group therapy sessions provide an opportunity to learn together, share experiences, build relationships, and get mutual support. Our group therapy sessions are supervised by experienced clinicians and are safe and supportive environments.

Dietary and nutritional counseling

Women are disproportionately affected by disordered eating and eating disorders. Substance use disorders often exacerbate nutritional problems. We provide nutritional counseling and prepare nutritious meals to help restore a healthy relationship with food and strive to use nutrition as a means of attaining better health and overall well-being.

Case management

High-quality case management can make a crucial difference in behavioral health. Case managers coordinate each client’s care and collaborate with the care team to ensure individualized care.

Gender-responsive curriculum

Our women’s program uses a specialized curriculum to make treatment especially relevant and effective. A women’s curriculum deals with gender-specific topics that can make the treatment experience more productive and meaningful. Whether discussing gender-related issues and roles, biases, gender-identity issues, partner relationships, parent-child relationships, or other experiences common to women, using a gender-specific curriculum focuses on the issues that are often most important to clients and families.

Recreation and fitness

Learning to enjoy life free from substances is an essential part of supporting long-term recovery. Physical fitness is helpful to overall health and improves self-image. We offer daily recreational and fitness activities, including movement and mindfulness, as well as individual and group activities.

Continuing care planning

Behavioral health conditions are chronic medical conditions that require ongoing management. Ensuring that clients have a specific and actionable ongoing treatment plan is especially important in early recovery and immediately after completing treatment — a vulnerable period when individuals are no longer supported by a safe residential treatment environment. We help clients find resources in their home communities and caregivers qualified to continue providing medical and therapeutic services.
